Kulgam: Protesters clash with police over woman’s ‘murder’

ANANTNAG: Hundreds of people Tuesday blocked the Anantnag-Banihal railway track to protest the “failure” of police to solve the alleged murder of a pregnant woman last month.
According to reports and eye-witnesses, p olice used force to disperse the protesters who had blocked the railway track in Sadoora area of Kulgam.
Several protesters and at least three police men were injured in the ensuing clashes.
27- year old Sumair Jan was found dead under mysterious circumstances on May 15 five days after she went missing from a maternity hospital in Anantnag where she had gone for check-up. Her body bore severe burn injuries.
“When the body of the woman was found police sought a week’s time to solve the case. But now 20 days have passed police is yet to arrest the culprits,” a protester told Kashmir Reader over phone.
However police maintains that they are waiting for the FSL report. “We have already registered murder case into the incident and have sent samples for FSL exams. Once the FSL report comes we will speed up the investigation,” SDPO Kulgam, Irshad Ahmad told Kashmir Reader. He said that they are investigating the case from all angles.
