Water supply to power station blocked after motorcyclist falls into canal

SRINAGAR: Agitated protestors blocked the water supply for Atwatoo Power Station on Monday after the death of a motorcyclist who fell into an unfenced canal. Protestors alleged that the death of the youth resulted due to sheer negligence of Atwatoo power station authorities as they had failed to fence the canal.
Ajaz Ahmad Sheer Gojri son of Abdul Ahad resident of Quil Muqam Bandipora lost control of his bike and plunged into Atwatoo canal on Sunday.
On Monday morning hundreds of people from Atwatoo and its adjoining areas took to streets and blocked the water supply for the Atwatoo power station. Due to blocking of the water supply, the whole area reeled under darkness.
“It is the responsibility and job of the authorities of Atwatoo power station to do fencing of the canal. The canal is wide open from both sides as a result any vehicle or bike plunges it whenever an accident takes place. Last year, a youth lost his life when his vehicle plunged into this ‘dangerous’ canal,” one of the protestors Wahid Ahmed said.
