BARAMULLA: A house and a shopping complex were damaged as strong winds wreaked havoc in Pattan tehsil of this north Kashmir district on Friday evening.
Reports said the winds uprooted scores of poplar trees along the Baramulla-Srinagar highway. A poplar tree fell on and damaged a residential house in Dargam Tilgam area, they said, adding that a two storied shopping complex in main town Pattan got damaged as an uprooted tree fell over it.
The highway remained blocked for several hours on the Saturday morning due to the tree-rubble scattered on the main road near Zangam and Hajiveera areas, the reports said. The highway was later cleared by the R&B department, they added
The Locals have, however, demanded that the decaying poplar trees along the highway shall be removed to prevent loss to life or property.
“Last year, a girl was killed after a decayed poplar tree fell upon her when she was walking on the road,” the locals said.
