Omar urges PDD for rapid response to power snags

JAMMU: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday underlined the need for strengthening the consumer care service by the Power Development Department (PDD), while ensuring quick response to the public grievances regarding power cuts, transformer damages and repairs besides others relating to consumer concern.
Omar said this while inaugurated Data Recovery Centre established by PDD at Gladni, similar to one launched at Bemina Srinagar few days ago.
Constructed at a cost of about Rs 5 crore the data centre would have modern facility to ease consumer care and provide online billing, payment, enquiry and other facilities to the consumers.
Under Re-structured Accelerated Power Development Reforms Programme (R-APDRP), the state government has launched special programme of upgrading transmission and distribution of electricity in as many as 30 towns including Srinagar and Jammu cities. The establishment of Data Centre and Data Recovery Centre at Srinagar and Jammu is a part of R-APDRP programme.
The chief minister was given a Power Point presentation on the functioning of the new centre by Department officials.
Later, the chief minister inspected various units of the Data Recovery Centre and also interacted with the staff and the management of the Centre.
Minister for Housing and Horticulture, Raman Bhalla was also present on the occasion.
