Srinagar: Shocked with the results of Lok Sabha elections, the Omar Abdullah led coalition government is taking a slew of corrective measures, including the reduction in power tariff, revocation of PSA against some youth, besides passing orders for filling up the vacant posts in all government departments at the earliest.
Reliable sources told Kashmir Reader Wednesday that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is likely to take some major announcements shortly after receiving nearly 2500 e-mails from people from different walks of life, including journalists, former bureaucrats, lawyers, educationists, and youth. The net savvy Chief Minister also received abusive mails from users on his email@example.com address, which he had made public recently to seek suggestions from the people over his party’s poll debacle.
Among the major announcements likely to be made, sources said, is the slashing of power tariff to the consumers by nearly 50 percent.
“The revocation of PSA against some youth is also in the offing. Besides, all vacant posts in the government departments will be referred to the recruitment agencies for filling up on fast track basis,” sources said.
In most of the e-mails, sources said, the people have cornered Omar over 2010 mass uprising that saw over 120 youth, mostly teens falling to the bullets of government forces. Afzal Guru’s secret hanging and the government’s alleged failure to save him from the gallows, also figured in many e-mails, which Omar has viewed over the last three days.
He has also received enormous complaints from the people over the corruption in the government offices. He has also been apprised by the people, mostly educated, unemployed youth of the flawed employment policy.
“It was on the basis of the feedback he (Omar) has received, the cabinet today scrapped the new job policy,” sources said.
On Tuesday, Omar had posted on the micro blogging website twitter “I am bringing a proposal to the J&K cabinet on Wednesday and I’m proposing scrapping the ‘New Recruitment Policy’ with immediate effect,”
Sources said that Omar will also assure people ‘direct’ action against the officials found involved in corruption.
“He will also make the PSGA act more vibrant so that the people benefit from it. Chief Minister is reading each and every mail by himself. He is taking the feedback from people very serious,” sources said.
Besides the virtual world, the Chief Minister, sources said, will also make interaction with party’s grass root workers and the people, especially the youth, a regular feature.
“Only today, hundreds of people met Chief Minister at his Gupkar residence. He is getting good response from people. He will keep close coordination with the people and the party workers,” sources added.
