Srinagar: A complete shutdown was observed Friday in Palhalan town hamlet of Baramulla district on the first death anniversary of a local militant commander.
The shutdown was observed in memory of Mufti Hilal Ahmad who was killed last year on this day in a gunfight with police and paramilitary forces in Srinagar’s Fateh Kadal area.
Mufti Hilal, a graduate from Deoband Islamic seminary, was associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit.
Reports said authorities had brought in additional reinforcements of police and paramilitary forces in Palhalan to preempt protests.
No political or militant outfit had called for the shutdown.
