PAHALGAM: Visitors to this famous south Kashmir tourist destination were on Sunday treated to an assortment of Kashmiri folk music and theatre by folk artists drawing huge applause from onlookers.
Presented by J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, the cultural programme lasted for three hours and featured prominent folk forms of Kashmir including Chhakri, Bhand Paether and Dambali.
“The event was part of the Academy’s continuous effort to promote and showcase Kashmiri folk forms and introduce tourists to the rich cultural tradition of Kashmir,” an official handout said.
A large number of people including tourists witnessed the cultural event. Last Sunday, a similar programme was held at the famous Shalimar Garden. The next event will be held at Gulmarg on May 25, the handout added.
Folk artists and groups who performed at Pahalgam included Ghulam Mohiuddin Shah & Party (Chhakri), Alamdar Bhagat Theatre (Bhand Paether) and Kali Shah Sahab Dambali Dance Centre (Dambali).
