Minor’s ‘rape’ triggers protests in Pampore

Pampore: Violent protests broke out Sunday in Samboora area of this south Kashmir town after a minor girl was allegedly raped by a youth.
“20-year-old Gowhar Ahmed, son of Mohammad Ayub Dar, barged into the residence of his neighbour Mushtaq Ahmad in Karnabal locality of Samboora and allegedly raped his four year old daughter,” police said. The girl was alone at home when the accused sneaked into her house. Her mother had gone to the market to fetch some essentials.
“When she returned, she found her daughter in a bad condition. She along with her neighbours rushed the girl to the sub-district hospital, Pampore for treatment. However, the doctors there, referred her to Lal Ded hospital for specialized treatment,” reports said.
The news of alleged rape sparked outrage among the locals. Scores of people marched towards the house of the accused and attacked it with stones. Angry protesters also tried to set ablaze the house. However, the police intervened and pacified the protesters by assuring prompt action.
“We have filed a case FIR No 63/2014, under 376 in this regard. The accused is absconding. However, we’ll find him soon,” Station House Officer (SHO) Pampore, Raja Tasleem told Kashmir Reader.
