Srinagar: Indian Navy’s specially trained deep divers, Marcos, on Thursday joined operations in Nowpora locality of old city to search a missing boy, who is believed to have drowned in a nallah on May 6.
Officials told Kashmir Reader that a team of navy divers joined the local police in the morning and started fresh operation along the Nowpora-Baba Demb canal to trace 3-year-old Fahim Asgar, who is believed to have slipped into the nallah on the evening of May 6.
The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Khanyar, Sajad Khaliq was monitoring the operation, even as the distressed parents carrying their daughter in lap were watching the operation closely.
The mysterious disappearance of the boy triggered protests in the area. Police has also flashed details of the missing boy and constituted search teams to visit hotels and guest houses in the city in this regard.
SDPO Khanyar told Kashmir Reader that it is suspected that the boy has drowned in the nallah. He said that the slippers of the boy were recovered from the banks by police.
“We’re trying our best to trace the missing boy. From sunrise to sunset, the navy and police conducted searches of the stretch from Nowpora to Baba Demb but we couldn’t find the boy. However, the searches will continue,” he said.
