Jammu: Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Lieutenant General Aniruddha Chakravarty was on Thursday handed over the baton of the Rajput Regiment Colonel (RRC).
General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Northern Command Lieutenant Gen Sanjiv Chachra handed over the baton to Lt Gen Chakravarty at a ceremony held at the RRC in Fatehgarh, an army spokesman said here.
Lt Gen Chakravarty, a professional soldier, was commissioned into Third Battalion, the Rajput Regiment on December 15, 1976 and will take over as the 15th Colonel of the Rajput Regiment on June 1.
During his 38 years of service, Lt Gen Chakravarty has held a variety of prestigious and balanced portfolio of Command, Staff and Instructional assignments.
A graduate of Defence Service Staff College, Wellington, he has attended the higher command course and the prestigious National Defence College. The General Officer is presently the Director General of the National Cadet Corps.
Lt Gen Chachra, who took over as the 14th Colonel of the Rajput Regiment on June 1, 2012, will hang his boots on May 31 after 40 years in service.
Lt Gen Chachra was given a Guard of Honour on arrival. Later he laid a wreath at the Rajput Memorial.
