Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM) on Wednesday paid glowing tributes to prominent religious social activist and pro-freedom leader, Haji Abdul Gani on his 9th death anniversary.
In a statement here, a JKSM spokesman said that “Shaheed Haji Abdul Gani played an important role in the ongoing freedom struggle as well as on religious and social fronts during which he was arrested and jailed for several years while as Indian armed forces (STF & CRPF) blasted and destroyed his residence in 1994.”
He said that 11 family members of Haji Gani including his wife have laid down their lives. Prominent among the 11 slain of the family include Lateef Lone, Manzoor Lone, Hilal Najar, Abdul Qayoom, Zehbah Masi and Shazad Lone.
The JKSM spokesman said that besides working for “freedom struggle, this great martyr has worked enough for the upliftment and betterment of widows, orphans and other conflict affected people.”
He said that “remembering martyrs and helping their families is the key responsibility of the native of oppressed nation like Kashmir and Shaheed Abdul Gani Sahab shouldered this responsibility very well which can’t underestimated.”
The spokesman said that party will organize a program in view of the death anniversary after party chairman Zaffer Akbar Bhat who continues under police custody since April 28, will be released and glowing tributes will be paid to the martyr as well as to others including Mohammad Maqbool Ellahi, Mohammad Ismail, Mohammad Hassan, Fayaz Ellahi, Mohammad Aslam Khan and Imtiyaz Ahmad.
The spokesman demanded unconditional release of senior pro-freedom leaders including Shabir Ahmad Shah, Zaffar Akbar Bhat, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Mushtaq-ul-Islam and others.
