ANANTNAG: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani and JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik have agreed to meet representatives of the Panchayat members on Wednesday.
Jammu and Kashmir Panch Sarpanch Association (JKPSA) on Tuesday constituted a six-member committee which will be meeting all top pro-freedom leaders in the wake of increasing attacks on Panchayat members by suspected militants.
The committee members on Tuesday sought appointment from the two leaders who, sources said, agreed to meet them.
Sources further said that Geelani even invited the members for a lunch. “Geelani happily agreed to meet them and invited them for lunch at his residence,” the sources told Kashmir Reader.
JKPSA’s general secretary and head of the six-member committee, Khursheed Malik confirmed that they are meeting Geelani and Malik on Wednesday.
“We will be first meeting Geelani Sahab and then Yasin Malik in the afternoon,” he said.
He said after meeting the two leaders they will seek an appointment with Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir chief Shabir Ahmad Shah.
Malik said that after meeting all the top four pro-freedom leaders they will take final decision on mass resignation.
On Monday, representatives of the Panchayat members staged protests in Srinagar against the government for its failure to protect Sarpanchs and Panchs in the Valley.
The protesters said it was ruling NC and opposition PDP and “not the militants” who were killing Panchayat members.
