Srinagar: Six drug peddlers were Monday arrested in Shopian district of south Kashmir and a huge quantity of a banned substance was recovered from their possession.
On a specific information, police conducted raids at various places and arrested seven people and recovered 230 bottles of ‘Codeine Phosphate’ from their possession, a police spokesman said here.
While Jahangir Ahmad Mir, Showket Ahmad Najar, Reyaz Ahmad Reshi, Abid Hussain, Mohammad Iqbal Wagay and Ashiq Hussain Malik were arrested Shamim Ahmad Mir managed to flee from the spot, the spokesman said.
“During investigation it surfaced that Mohammad Iqbal Wagay son of Ghulam Qadir of Pinjoora, Shopian is the kingpin of the racket and is involved in number of other NDPS cases,” the spokesman said.
A case has been registered under NDPS Act and investigations have been started, the spokesman said, adding more arrests and recoveries are expected.
