Police recovers ‘relics’

Srinagar: Police on Saturday recovered ‘relics’ which were allegedly displaced by unknown persons from a revered shrine in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Quoting sources, a local news agency  GNS reported that ahead of annual Urs at Ziyarat Zaati Shah Wali, starting May 13 at Muqam Shah Wali in Drugmalla area of the frontier district, the respectable of the village while cleaning the shrine found the box containing the  relics empty.
As the news spread in the village, there was hue and cry among the residents, sources said.
Subsequently, the locals informed police and district administration about it and they rushed to the village to review the situation.
SP Kupwara Abdul Jabbar told GNS that they raided several places in the area and finally recovered the relics from a mosque at Shah Mohalla in Drugmulla area.
“It was not theft but the relics were displaced from one place to another. Action as warranted under law would be taken against those responsible for it. We have registered a case and investigation has been taken up to identify the responsible,” he said.
Meanwhile, police has strengthened the security around the shrine to prevent such incident in future, an official said.
The locals across the village hailed the timely police action and demanded stern action against those responsible for it.
