Jammu: Army on Saturday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid by killing two militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu. A soldier was also injured in the exchange of fire late last night, army officer said in a statement.
“A group of four militants were seen moving along the LoC in the forward belt Kalsia in Poonch district,” the officer said.
The troops, he said, challenged them and the militants opened fire on them, who retaliated. In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and a soldier suffered injuries.
The injured soldier has been hospitalised, the officer said, adding the bodies have been recovered and a search operation is going on.
Regarding the remaining militants, the officer claimed that they were seriously injured and searches are continuing in the area. However, the officer did rule their repatriation.
On May 3, army had claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC in the Sawjian belt of district.
On April 28, army had alleged Pakistani troops resorted to firing from small arms and automatic weapons along the LoC in Bhimber Gali in Rajouri district.
On April 25, Pakistani troops, army had said, violated the ceasefire by firing with small arms and mortars on its posts in the Doda battalion area along the LoC in Poonch district.
Meanwhile, a local news agency GNS quoting official sources reported that Police on Saturday evening arrested a burka-clad person identified as Mohammad Altaf Mukroo son of Ghulam Mohammad of Ahmed Nagar from Soura here.
“Altaf is being questioned for reason for wearing the veil,” the sources said.
