Medical employee arrested for ‘sexually assaulting’ patient

Srinagar: A medical employee was arrested by police on Wednesday after he allegedly sexually assaulted a female patient in Trauma Hospital Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
The patient said she went with a doctor’s prescription to the medical employee who while supplying medicines to her allegedly made sexual advancements. “I raised a hue and cry and was saved by the attendants and doctors present there,” she said.
Reports said the medical employee, who was later identified as Abdul Majid Rather, of Nunar, Ganderbal, was thrashed by people and was dragged out from his chamber.
Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Qazi Javid told a local news agency CNS that the accused was placed under suspension with immediate effect.
“The evidences indicate that the medical employee who works as an orderly tried to assault the female patient sexually. We have handed him over to police and a formal case has been registered against the accused,” Dr Javid said.
