Srinagar: A complete shutdown was observed amid protest in parts of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district against the detention of youth.
Police had detained hundreds of people particularly youth in north Kashmir ahead of polls on Wednesday for Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency.
All the shops and other business establishments were closed in Hajan, Ajas and Shahgund areas of the district while people held peaceful protests in the Hajan Town against detentions.
The town has been on the edge since the killing of a teenager in nearby Naidkhai in the month of March, this year. Police, so far, have detained dozens of people in the town on charges of stone-pelting and protests.
Locals said that police have also detained parents of few youth who have gone into hiding to save themselves from detention.
A police official said these detentions are ‘preventive’ as authorities don’t want any trouble on the polling day.
