Srinagar: Police on Tuesday booked another youth under Public Safety Act (PSA) in south Kashmir and shifted him to Udhampur jail.
Quoting official sources, a local news agency GNS said that Zubair Ahmad Turray son of Bashir Ahmad Turray of Bunbazar Shopian in South Kashmir was arrested by police last week. After remaining in police custody for seven consecutive days, the youth was booked under PSA (DM no. 01 dated 05-05-2012) on charges of stone-pelting and shifted to Udhampur Jail today.
Pertinently, Waseem Ahmad Sofi (18), son of Bashir Ahmad of Dangerpora village of Pulwama in South Kashmir was arrested and booked under PSA (DM no. 12 dated 03-05-2012) with police claiming that he was indulging in stone pelting on forces. He was shifted to Kathua jail Sunday last.
However, the family had refuted the police claims that the youth was involved in stone pelting.
Meanwhile, rejecting claims of family about Waseem’s age a police spokesman here said that he is more than 18 year old.
“As reported by a section of press wherein the family of a PSA detainee Waseem Bashir Sofi son of Bashir Ahmed Sofi resident of Dangerpora, Pulwama claimed that Waseem is a minor”, a police spokesman in a statement issued to GNS said. “The newspaper had also published photograph of school leaving certificate where in the date of birth has been mentioned as 02/09/1998”.
He said that Pulwama police during its probe in the matter checked with the District Election office, Pulwama wherein the name of Waseem Bashir Sofi son of Bashir Ahmed Sofi has been issued Electoral card no. LKM0847947. He is the resident of Dangerpora, Pulwama and figures at s. no. 837 and his age is depicted as 18 years. His original date of birth in the school records is 02/09/1995, which has been tampered with. Matter of tampering of school records is also being probed.
