KU students protest scholar’s arrest

Srinagar: Kashmir University students on Monday held a protest against the arrest of a scholar and writer in Baramulla.
Reports said scores of students assembled outside Allama Iqbal Library in the campus and shouted pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.
The students demanded release of Dr Ghulam Qadir, a PhD scholar and a noted writer, who was detained by police last week on the charges of instigating youth in his village.
Dr Qadir was detained after addressing a congregation at local mosque at Rafiabad wherein he asked people to stay away from elections.
The students while demanding release of Dr Qadir, also shouted slogans against the killing of Bashir Ahmad Bhat by CRPF at Nawa Kadal in downtown Srinagar on April 30.
