Flyover construction: SHRC notice to Simplex, others for traffic mismanagement, child labour

Srinagar: The J&K State Human Rights Commission on Monday issued a notice to Project Manager M/S Simplex Infrastructures Pvt Ltd— entrusted to construct flyover from Jahangir Chowk to Ramabagh— and Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation and SP Traffic Kashmir for alleged negligence and mismanagement of traffic in the area.
The notice was issued by acting chairman of SHRC, Rafiq Fida, while acting on email complaints, inviting attention of the Commission towards an accident at Solina on April 28 last and engaging children labors for construction.
The first complainant alleges negligence and mismanagement at the hands of Traffic Police and M/S Simplex Infrastructures Pvt. Limited.
The accident is reported to have taken place between a motor bike and a van of SMC which caused injuries to a woman, Aisha Begum, wife of Ab. Rehman Malik of Haripora, Budgam.
Another complaint was received against the management of M/S Simplex Infrastructures Pvt Ltd. alleging that the company has put to manual job under aged boys as laborers and the living condition of the workforce of the Company “is more than worse and pathetic who are being kept in tin sheds without providing basic facilities and forced to suffer a great deal of inconvenience especially during chilly winter season of Kashmir, which amounts to violation of the child rights and human rights of their workforce.”
“The contents of all these complainants and representation make out a case of human rights violations at the hands of Traffic Department and M/S Simplex Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd. Srinagar,” the Commission said and issued notice to Commissioner SMC, SP Traffic Kashmir, Srinagar and Project Manager M/S Simplex Infrastructures Pvt. Limited, 465 Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar.
The case has been listed on May 26.
