Srinagar: Ruling National Conference’s working president and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said the ‘slogan of change’ by opposition People’s Democratic Party is “only aimed to bring” Narendra Modi of BJP as next Prime Minister of India.
“This election is not about choosing a MLA or the Chief Minister but about choosing the government at Centre,” Omar told an election gathering while campaigning at Keran, adjacent to the Line of Control.
“Presently, the government at New Delhi is run by UPA which we support. There are only two choices for Prime Minister: Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi. If they are talking about change, it means bringing down Rahul Gandhi and crowning Modi as Prime Minister,” Omar added.
Meanwhile, in his tweet, Omar said that his party has no intention of abandoning the UPA at New Delhi.
Omar also posted on Twitter a picture of the fence along the LoC in Keran and claimed that it has resulted in a significant reduction in infiltration.
Keran area hogged headlines in October last year after army claimed it killed seven out of 30-40 militants spotted by it in the sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The encounter had begun on September 24 after 30 to 40 militants were detected to have crossed over the LoC. Nearly a fortnight after the army operations were called off, questions cropped up over what happened during the long intrusion by infiltrators
A report filed by security agencies about the Keran encounter had picked holes in the army’s version of the episode.
