Lt Gen Chachra conferred PVSM

SRINAGAR: The President of India Pranab Mukherjee conferred the prestigious PVSM on Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, for exceptional service and outstanding leadership in a Defence Investiture ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi on Friday.
Gen Chachra took over reins of Udhampur-based Northern Command on July 1, 2013 and “conceptualized a realistic, practical and dynamic joint strategy in conjunction with the civil administration, state police and CAPFs to combat ‘terrorism’ in J&K,” according to an army handout.
“Under Gen Chachra’s leadership, a safe winter and a vibrant transition to a summer of hope in 2014 has been ensured. The award of prestigious PVSM by the President of India is an apt recognition of the valiant efforts of the troops in Northern Command led by their illustrious Army Commander,” the handout added.
