Srinagar: Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) has condemned the killing of a 24-year youth, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, by CRPF troopers at Nawa Kadal locality here on Wednesday.
In a statement, president KTMF, Mohammad Yasin Khan while vpaying tributes to Bhat said, “The heinous act once again shows that forces operating under impunity have been given full authority to kill anybody at their will.”
Khan said instead of making the forces operating in the Valley accountable and taking them to task for atrocities and innocent killings, they are being provided AFSPA cover. Government has failed to protect the life of the general public, as it has not been able to rein into different ‘security apparatus’ operating here, he said.
“The killing of the youth is a deliberate attempt to scuttle the business and bring Kashmiris to their knees at a time when the people especially poor after a long spell of winter had started to come out to earn their livelihood,” Khan said, adding, the continuous curfew and restrictions have made life miserable in downtown.
“Government instead of booking perpetrators of the crime is punishing us en masse on all the fronts be it our business or general life,” Khan said.
Bhat was killed while two others, including a woman, suffered injuries on Wednesday when CRPF troopers opened fire upon a group of anti-poll protesters in Nawa Kadal locality of old city here after the polling for the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat ended. The killing set off violent protests prompting the officials to impose undeclared curfew across the old city.
