Geelani, Shah laud Pak army chief’s Kashmir remarks

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference(G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani Friday welcomed Pakistan Army chief General Raheel Sharif’s remarks on Kashmir.
“General Sharif’s statement about Kashmir being an internationally- recognized dispute which ought to be resolved according to the wishes and aspiration of the people of Kashmir is encouraging and based on truth,” Geelani said in a statement.
Geelani said Pakistan should not compromise on its “traditional, principled stand on Kashmir” and the stability of that country was vital for the resolution of Kashmir issue
“We need a stable and strong Pakistan as that country is the hope for the entire Muslim Ummah,” Geelani said.
He also dismissed as “unrealistic” the reaction of BJP and Congress to the statement of General Sharif .
“The Indian rulers and politicians are running away from the ground realities of Kashmir as has been their policy for their decades now,” he said.
“Kashmiris have never accepted the illegal and forced occupation of India and nor will they accept it in future,” Geelani said.
He also criticized the role of pro-India parties of Kashmir and said they were “ equally responsible for the massacres, miseries and sufferings of Kashmiris.”
Senior Hurriyat Conference Jammu and Kashmir Shabir Ahmad Shah also welcomed General Sharif’s statement.
“Pakistan government and its people have always extended political, moral and diplomatic support to the people of Kashmir and we hope that they will continue to do so till the freedom movement of Kashmiris reaches its logical conclusion,” he said.
