‘Authorities don’t want to issue passport to Geelani’

SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani’s family Friday alleged that the authorities were in no mood to issue passport to him to enable him to visit Pakistan for a seminar on May 5.
Geelani’s son Naseem Geelani, who approached the Passport Office on Friday, said that he was told that “some requirements which are a must before issuing a passport are not complete.”
“It means the authorities are not in a mood to issue passport to Geelani Sahab,” Naseem said.
But Passport Officer Firdous Iqbal told a local news agency KNS that “since the requirements for issuing passport to him are incomplete we cannot help in this regard.”
Geelani has been invited by Washington-based Kashmir American Council (KAC) to address a seminar titled “Is Kashmir, an Issue of election or Self determination” to be held on May 5 at Islamabad.
