Srinagar: Police have arrested at least 70 youth from different parts of south Kashmir’s Pulwama town during nocturnal raids during past two days.
Reports said the police have made the arrests in Ratnipora, Pampore, Khrew, Kakapora, Tahab, Karim Abad, Koil, Achan, Sirnu, Tral, Awantipora and Rajpora areas of the district.
“Police sources (said) that massive crackdown has been launched against the youth who disrupted the peace and order in Pulwama on the polling day on April 24,” a local news agency CNS said.
“Stone-pelters and other trouble mongers damaged scores of vehicles meant for ferrying poll staff on the poll day in Pulwama. They harassed and attacked poll staff and damaged the furniture inside the polling stations in different areas of Pulwama town. At least 54 government forces personnel were injured that day,” a police official told CNS, adding that drive against the identified stone-pelters would continue in coming days.
The arrestees have been booked under various sections including 148, 149, 307, 332, 336, 353 and 427 of RPC.
“Besides police, army has also prepared a list of youth who allegedly were involved in stone-pelting incidents on the polling day,” the news agency said.
