SRINAGAR: A group of media men which included editors and working journalists of local publications met here under the chairmanship of Raja Mohi-u-Din, Editor, KPS to discuss and deliberate the issues confronting the media fraternity in the state. Several Jammu and Ladakh based journalists too participated in the deliberations via tele-conference. The participants felt that the interests of the fraternity are being exploited by a select group of people and the genuine and deserving members are deprived from their rights. The participants in their speeches expressed their concern over the indifferent attitude by the government towards these publications on the behest of certain vested interests in the media and the information department. The members vowed to expose such elements that are creating a wedge between the state and the important component of democracy in the state. The members vehemently decided to fight the injustice meted to them by the government.
The speakers on the occasion felt that since the representative organizations in the state have so far failed to put the point of view of the fraternity before the state government and apprise it of its genuine issues, so the need of a new coherent representative organization was unanimously felt represent the fraternity and its issues before the public and the state. Finally consensus arrived at to formation of JK Media Federation.
Raja Mohi-u-Din was nominated as the adhoc president of the organization, who with the support of other members will organize the members of the media in Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh regions and will lead it to hold free and fair elections within 2 months to democratically elect the president. The schedule for the elections and other activities shall be released to press from time to time to keep the media fraternity updated on the organizations activities.
