Employees should resist ‘forced’ poll duty: Geelani

Srinagar: Expressing sorrow and dismay over the killing of a polling official in Shopian, Hurriyat Conference(G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Friday alleged that government employees were “forced to join poll duty.”
“Throwing legal and moral norms to wind, the government forcing its employees to become part of a military operation( elections),” Geelani said in a statement.
Geelani said elections held in the presence of “seven lakh troops in Jammu and Kashmir can be termed as nothing but a military operation .”
“The government employees are held hostage in violation of international laws,” Geelani said. Expressing his sympathies with the slain official’s family, Geelani “advised government employees to resist the forced poll duty.”
“If the government pushes them further, they can take their case to the judiciary,” Geelani said.
