23 more Panchayat members quit

Srinagar: In the aftermath of recent killing of three persons, including a Sarpanch, in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, at least 23 Panchayat members Friday announced their resignation in Kulgam district, reports said.
Fourteen Panchayat members including, two Sarpanchs, two deputy Sarpanchas and 10 Panchs, announced their resignation after Friday prayers in the local mosque in Bugam area of Kulgam, a local news agency CNS said. Their names were read by the imam on public address system, it said.
The Panchayat members who resigned were identified as Sarpanchs Wali Muhammad Koka and Muhammad Masood Shiekh; Deputy Sarpanchs Murshid Lone and Abbas Lone; Panchs Maqbool Bhat, Afrooza Akhtar, Mubarak Koka, Jamshed Hajam, Fareeda Akhtar, Rehana Banoo, Rashid Mir, Shabir Lone, Mehbooba Akhtar and Ghulam Rasool Khan.
In Sonigam village of Kulgam, seven Panchayat members tendered their resignation. They were identified as Sarpanch Abbas Bhat; Deputy Sarpanch Ibrahim Parray; and Panchs Haseena, Ayoub, Naseema, Reyaz, Mudasir Parray, and Muhammad Shafi.
A Panch from Chhatargam, Tral, namely Rajindar Singh and a Deputy Sarpanch from Naboog Kund, Qazigund, Khurshid Ahmed Wani also tendered their resignation, the CNS added.
