Srinagar: Slamming the police and administration for its “insensitive approach,” the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has entrusted its investigative wing with a “time-bound” probe into the killing of over 50 Kashmiris by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers at Hawal on May 21, 1990.
The human rights body was hearing a petition filed by human rights activist Muhammad Ahsan Untoo seeking a probe into the Hawal massacre and compensation for the kin of victims.
The SHRC said that despite various communications addressed to DGP J&K, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and also DO’s from Secretary of the Commission, authorities were “unmoved…” and in view of their “insensitive approach” , it has been left with no option but to entrust the enquiry to its investigative wing.
“Accordingly, IGP SHRC is directed to get the matter investigated from SP SHRC who shall investigate the matter and furnish the report within two months. Registry is directed to provide all relevant papers to the investigating officer put up on May 1, 2014.”
The commission has fixed the next date for hearing on the same day .
