SRINAGAR: “The arrest spree unleashed by police across Kashmir valley against innocent youth and unjustified arrest of relatives of pro-freedom gunmen has instilled fear psychosis among common masses. Nocturnal raids by police and forces from past many days have further terrorized the people. The situation reflects imposition of emergency,” the Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu Kashmir said Wednesday.
In a statement, Jama’at spokesman Advocate Zahid Ali said the diktat by police asking hundreds of youth to report to various police stations has caused grave anxiety among their parents and relatives and has further fuelled the prevailing uncertainty in the valley.
“People are also harassed by subjecting the pedestrians and passengers to undue frisking on roads across length and breadth of the Valley,” the spokesman said, condemning “this anti-people attitude of police and administration.”
The spokesman demanded immediate and unconditional release of all detained youth. “Jama’at also demands immediate halt on the nocturnal raids by police and forces which leads to harassment and persecution of people so that the cordial atmosphere prevails and common masses heave a sigh of relief from the repressive state policies,” the spokesman added.
