Doda: The Forum for Peace and Cevelopment (FPD) on Monday organized a seminar here to pay homage to the woman human rights defender Asiya Jeelani who died in a blast in Kupwara district while monitoring Lok Sabha elections in 2004.
The seminar was held at Alhira Public School Doda, in which students from various educational institutes participated. Eminent social worker Nuzhat Iqbal Zarger was chief guest on the function which was presided over by the school principal.
In his inaugural speech, chairman FPD, Naseer Khora highlighted the contribution of Asiya Jeelani towards the society in general and the women in particular. “She highlighted the sufferings and hardships faced by women folk in Jammu and Kashmir,” Khora said.
Nuzhat Iqbal Zarger stressed on the students to follow the footsteps of Asiya and derive inspiration from her work which she did during crisis in the state. Renowned social worker of the district, Ishtiaq Dev also paid rich tributes to Asiya.
Others who participated in the seminar included, Vizan Naseer, Haq Nawaz, Rafaqat, Purna Devi, Zenab Batool, Mohammad Iqbal Balwan, Afshan, Qurat ul Ain and Iqra Tabussum. Nuzhat also distributed prizes among the students.
