NC workers, locals clash in Sopore village

Baramulla: Ruling National Conference workers faced protests in Dangerpora village of Sopore after they tried to stage a rally at the local Eidgah(prayer ground).
According to eyewitnesses, NC workers were busy pasting posters and setting up a stage for the party’s Lok Sabha candidate Sharifudin Shariq when locals reached the venue and objected to their activities.
“Some of the locals were upset over the posters NC workers had pasted on the walls of the Eidgah and following heated arguments the two sides pelted stones at each other,” the eyewitnesses said.
A contingent of Sopore police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Later , the NC workers organized the meeting at the home of MLA Sopore Mohammad Ashraf Ganie.
MLA Sopore Mohammad Ashraf Ganie said the venue of the public meeting was changed as locals had objected to a political rally being held at a religious place. However, he denied that the NC workers and locals had clashed over the issue
