SRINAGAR: Kashmir Hotels and Restaurant Association (KHARA) Saturday re-elected Showkat Chowdhary, chairman of Hattrick Group of Companies, as its president for two-year term, a spokesperson of the association said in a statement.
He said 20-member managing committee of the KHARA, which was elected on April 14, as per the constitution of the KHARA, chose Chowdhary unanimously to head the oldest association of hoteliers and restaurant owners of the Valley.
The committee also elected Dr Abdul Majid as Senior Vice President; Abdul Majeed as Junior Vice President, Adil Khan as Secretary General, Aysha Saleem as Join Secretary General, Ghulam Jeelani as Treasurer and Assad Ullah Khan as Publication Secretary.
Speaking on the occasion, Chowdhary said he would try his best to work for the betterment of the tourism sector and take up all issues which the sector is facing.
He said tourism sector is facing many problems, which need to be addressed forthwith.
“KHARA has been at the forefront in demanding a comprehensive tourism policy for the J&K, which will help streamline the tourism sector. KHARA has worked on many issues in the past few years and we will take up every issue with the government so that tourism sector receives fillip,” said Chowhdary.
He said hoteliers have also repeatedly demanded status of industry and industrial benefits to tourism sector.
“Besides, the hoteliers are now confronting with the issue of Sewerage Treatment Plants which government is asking them to set up. We have categorically and justifiably suggested government to set up common STPs for resolving the issue of pollution. In the next two years, we will pitch hard so that all these issues are addressed by the government,” said KHARA president.
