SRINAGR: The J&K Contractors Co-ordination Committee (JKCCC) Wednesday threatened to go for protests outside the government treasuries if they fail to disburse the payment against the issued cheques.
A statement issued by the association said cheques issued for the release of the payment of the contractors by different government departments even before 40 days, are yet to be released.
The committee which held a meeting under the chairmanship of Ghulam Jeelani Purza discussed in detail the hardship faced by the contractor fraternity due to this unnecessary delay happening at the treasuries.
Purza said that the Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather had promised that the treasuries will adhere to the norms and clear the cheques within 24 hours, but the officials care little for the government orders.
“We are suffering and there is no one to listen to our problems,” he said adding that even the Finace Minister is busy with the election campaigning forgetting that people are in trouble,” he said.
In Feburary the Committee took out a protest demonstration to press the government for adhering to its promise of releasing pending bills before the close of last fiscal.
