Govt creates 2 new divisions in FSL

Srinagar: In a move to expand the operations in Jammu Kashmir Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for speedy disposal, the state government has accorded sanction to creation of two new divisions in FSL to address the cases involving DNA profiling, voice identification and video authentication tests.
According to a government order (No. Home-185 of 2014, dated April 14, 2014) the Home Department has accorded sanction to creation of two divisions—first is the DNA profiling and the other pertains to Computer, Cyber/voice identification/video authentication technology.
Earlier the J&K FSL would send samples for DNA profiling to Chandigarh and Hyderabad forensic science laboratories which causes delay in investigations into the cases.
The state police headquarters are already under job for procurement of equipments for these two new divisions under modernization scheme. “Tenders have already been floated for the procurement of equipments to make these two divisions functional,” a local news agency KNS quoted its sources as saying.
Director FSL, Inayatullah Khan told KNS, “We have already reserved space for these two new divisions in our state-of-the-art building at Bemina, and I think it will take us three to four months to make these two divisions functional.”
