SRINAGAR: Shehr-e-Khaas (Old City) roads will be a busy sight on April 19 as Jammu and Kashmir Sports Development Association (JKSDA) will be holding their ‘flagship’ event-4th edition of JK Bank Run for Shehr-e-Khaas-on the day.
Having had a fruitful first three editions, JKSDA said the upcoming edition will feature some new innovations with number of participants much higher than what has been witnessed in the bygone events, a statement from the organisers claimed.
“This is our flagship event. After three successful editions, this year we are adding a number of features to it apart from a bigger number of participants in both the participating categories,” Bashir Ahmad Malik, President JKSDA said.
The run will start from TRC ground with Islamia College gate bracketed as finishing line. The participants will run their way through Munawarabad Road, Baba Dawood Khaki Bridge, Baba Demb, Naidkadal, Bohri kadal, Saraf Kadal, Rajouri Kadal, Gojwara before reaching the final point.
The event will see participants vying for the titles in two categories: Open and U-17 for boys.
Being a maiden long distance run with Old City as its venue, Malik said, makes the run extra special.
“It passes almost through all important Old City areas,” he said.
Giving details about the event, JKSDA, President Bashir Ahmad Malik, said,
State’s premier bank, JK Bank will be the lead sponsor for the event.
“It is great to see JK Bank coming forward to sponsor the event. They have been in the forefront of promotion of sports from last many years. We are thankful to them as it is almost impossible for voluntary body like, JKSDA to organize event like this on its own,” he said.
Reyaz Ahmad, ace athlete who represents Jammu Kashmir Police, is defending champions in the events having pocketed titles in all three editions.
This is JKSDA’s second event and the organizing secretary Reyaz Ahmad is expecting around 1500 athletes to make it to the run.
