Sports events flagged off at SKICC, Dal Lake

SRINAGAR: As a part of three-day Spring Festival-2014 organized by the J&K Tourism Department which different water sports events were held in the world famous Dal Lake on Sunday.
The festival is aimed at promoting Kashmir as a favourite all season tourist destination and attract more and more national and global tourists besides to woo the production houses and Bollywood directors to the valley so that past pristine glory of Kashmir is revived as it was once part heaven of Bollywood movies.
On this occasion, Director Tourism, Talat Parvaiz flagged off various sports events including Kayaking, Canoeing, drag and boat, Cano polo and water zorbing. A photo exhibition regarding tulip festival was also held and photographs taken by students were highly appreciated by the Director Tourism and Bollywood personalities.
Music director A R Rehman, Shweta Pandit, Deepti Batnagar who is also brand ambassador of J&K Tourism Department besides, Officers of Tourism Department, Participants of the event, tour and travel operators, large numbers of people and sports lovers were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Tourism said that Kashmir is blessed with the mountains, lakes, and rivers that offer ample opportunities for conduct of water sports activities in Kashmir. He said water bodies not only add to the beauty of this valley but are amongst the prime tourist attractions that lure thousands of tourists round the year.
Bollywood personalities, Shweta Pandit and Deepti Batnagar also addressed the function and said that Kashmir is really a paradise on earth Lakes and Rivers in Kashmir also offer more than an enjoyable view which in fact attracts a large crowd of adventure seekers looking for activity-oriented vacations and discovering new ways to enjoy the outdoors of Kashmir. They also said that valley is fertile in talent which needs to be explored by providing proper platform so that the state is benefitted economically.
