US envoy pledges help for Pakistani Kashmir

MUZAFFARABAD: At the groundbreaking ceremony for the Education department building on the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir City Campus on Thursday, US Ambassador Richard Olson said the US would continue to support Pakistan and Azad Kashmir in the education sector. Olson said $400 million would be spent to promote education in Pakistan and Azad Kashmir.
The envoy visited the historic fort located in the heart of Muzaffarabad. He said that the scenic area had the potential to attract the tourists. “We are ready to help restore the fort.”
Earlier, Olson met Azad Kashmir President Sardar Yaqoob Khan. The ambassador said the US would continue to support the rehabilitation and reconstruction of earthquake-hit areas.—Agencies
Another woman commits suicide
Srinagar: A woman committed suicide by consuming poison in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, police said Friday.
The woman consumed some poisonous substance at her home at Kudara, Bandipora, a police spokesman said.
She was rushed to local hospital, where she was declared brought dead. Police has registered a case and initiated proceedings.
During the past three weeks, over a dozen women have tried to end their life by consuming poison.
