SRINAGAR: The state government has attached a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for allegedly sexually exploiting a constable’s wife.
According to the Home Department’s order No. 176 of 2014, dated April 3, SSP Mansoor Ahmad Untoo, IPS, pending inquiry into his conduct in terms of All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, has been attached to the Police Headquarters with immediate effect.
Untoo, the then SO to ADGP Armed, is currently posted as Commandant IR 12th battalion.
Though the government order does not mention why Untoo has been punished, he had been facing action for allegedly sexually exploiting a police constable’s wife, official sources told Kashmir Reader.
In December last year, Director General of Police Ashok Prasad had directed Additional Director General of Police (Armed) to hold a preliminary enquiry after the constable lodged a complaint against SSP Untoo and Inspector Mehboob-ul-Haq.
The preliminary inquiry by ADGP Shiv Murari Sahai had revealed that Untoo and Mehboob-ul-Haq had been in touch with the wife of the constable during the odd night hours for long periods of time. The inquiry team also managed the cell/land-line phone call details of both the officers and the woman (wife of constable Deepak Kumar who was then posted in APHQ).
After corroborating the serious charges levelled against Untoo and Haq, the ADGP had placed Haq under suspension in December last year.
In the case of SSP Untoo, DGP Prasad had said that they couldn’t take action against him on their own as action against all officers above the rank of SP was to be taken by the Home Department (headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah).
