Controversy over Mehbooba’s nomination papers ends

Anantnag: The controversy over the nomination papers filed by PDP president and party’s parliamentary candidate for Anantnag parliamentary seat, Mehbooba Mufti ended on Monday with election officer saying her both sets of papers were found correct.
Assistant returning officer, Anantnag, G R Wani said that during the scrutiny, both sets of her nominations papers were found correct.
“Nothing wrong was found with any of the sets of nomination papers filed by Mehbooba Mufti during the scrutiny. There was only confusion that banks were closed the day she filed her first set of papers. But to clear the confusion we summoned the bank manager who in his recorded statement said that his branch was very much open that day,” ARO told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the nomination papers of all the 13 candidates were found correct.
Mehbooba had to face an embarrassment last week after she failed to produce the fresh election expenditure account while filing her nomination papers before the returning officer.
However her party MLAs managed the account despite the holiday of the banks on the day.
Her opponent and NC parliamentary candidate, Mehboob Beig had lodged complaint with the Election Commission demanding investigation into what he had termed the fraudulent move.
Following the complaint by Beig, Mehbooba filed the fresh set of papers before the returning officer.
