Youth’s murder: Accused ‘confesses’ to crime

Baramulla: A student accused of stabbing to death 22-year-old youth in February this year has confessed to the crime, a police officer said Sunday.
On February 2, Irshad Ahmad Ganie (22) son of Gulam Mohammad Ganie of Ushkura Baramulla was killed by Irfan Farooq Bhat of Khawaja Sahib Oldtown Baramulla near a coaching centre at Park road here in this north Kashmir District.
“The accused was produced before court of Session Judge Baramulla where accused himself confirmed that he killed the youth with a knife,” the police officer said.
He said there are 36 witnesses to the murder as well as the FSL report which according to him also corroborates the murder.
The Sessions court has posted the case for next hearing on April 17, the officer said.
Even as Bhat was arrested within 10 minutes after murder, the town had also witnessed protest by locals against alleged failure of police to keep a check on coaching centres in the district.
