Geelani, Mirwaiz, Malik, Shah attend Pakistan Day function

Srinagar: Several pro-freedom leaders including chairmen of parallel factions of Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, JKLF chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Hurriyat Conference JK leader, Shabir Ahmed Shah Wednesday attended the dinner hosted by Pakistan High Commissioner to India, Abdul Basit, on the occasion of defered Pakistan Day function. Chairman of pro-India National Democratic Front (NDF), Abdul Rashid Kabli was also present on the occasion.
A local news agency quoted a pro-freedom leader as saying that “everyone enjoyed dinner and discussed different issues with some top Pakistan officials.”
“Pakistan High Commissioner talked to Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan and others and during their meeting Kashmir issue was discussed at length,” he said.
While interacting with the Pak HC, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani “cautioned him that Pakistan should not to take any step on Kashmir resolution with India in haste and any solution aimed at dividing Kashmir will be unacceptable,” a statement issued by Hurriyat (G) said.
Geelani, according to the statement, expressed serious concern over ‘inconsistent’ policy of Pakistan on Kashmir.
“There must be no haste adopted by Pakistan in resolving Kashmir as the same will be disastrous for the cause. The important thing is the steadfastness for the sustenance of the ongoing resistance movement of Kashmir and the internal stability of Pakistan,” Geelani told the Pak HC.
The Hurriyat (G) chairman also expressed resentment over the reports of Pakistan’s decision of declaring India a ‘favorite’ nation.
“Any such step would be tantamount to rubbing salt over the wounds of people of Kashmir,” he said.
On Ind0-Pak talks, the octogenarian leader told the Pak HC that “bilateral talks between India and Pakistan must not take place at the cost of peoples’ aspirations and that it is only the implementation of UN resolutions through which Kashmir dispute could be resolved.”
He, however, maintained that his amalgam was not, in principle, against the dialogue process “provided the same is result oriented and India shuns its traditional attitude on Kashmir.” Pakistan High Commissioner inquired about his health condition.
In his interaction with Pakistan High Commissioner, JKLF chairman said that “Pakistan should formulate a comprehensive policy on Kashmir.”
Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesperson said that a delegation of the pro-freedom amalgam led by its Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq met Pakistan High Commissioner to India, in New Delhi and apprised him of the current situation in Kashmir.
“The delegation called for settlement of all disputes between Pakistan and India including the Kashmir through result-oriented and meaningful dialogue,” the statement said.
“The High Commissioner assured them that all the pending disputes including Kashmir would be discussed with the new government of India after the elections,” the statement said.
The statement said that on the occasion, the top Pakistani official in India also conveyed a special message from Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Nawaz Sharif to the people of Kashmir through Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
“Nawaz Sharif in his message said that the settlement of the Kashmir dispute as per aspirations of the people of Kashmir was the national policy of Pakistan,” it added.
Besides, Syed Ali Geelani, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabir Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan the other pro-freedom leaders who attended the function in Pakistan Embassy at New Delhi included Professor Abdul Gani Butt, Maulana Abbas Ansari, Mohammad Abdullah Wani, Advocate Zahid Ali, Muhammad Musaddiq Aadil, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Khalil Ahmad Khalil, Zamrooda Habib, Yasmeen Raja, Fareeda Behanji, Shabbir Ahmad Dar, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, Musadiq Adil, Hakim Rashid, Bilal Sidique, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Wajahat Qureshi, Khalil Muhammad Khalil, Muhammad Abdullah Tari, Ayaz Akbar, Sheikh Musaib and others.
