Election Observer reviews preparedness in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Election Observer for Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, Dheeraj Singh convened a meeting with all the Nodal Officers to review the poll preparedness for the Parliamentary election-2014 scheduled to be held on April 30 for Srinagar Constituency, here Saturday.
According to an official spokesman, during the meeting the Observer was briefed about basic facilities put in place at polling stations, setting up of expenditure monitoring cell, imparting of training to polling staff, appointment and training of sectoral and zonal officers, polling personnel and randomization of electronic voting machines (EVMs), monitoring of Model Code of Conduct and establishing of media monitoring cell.
Various aspects for ensuring smooth conduct of polling besides Systematic Voters Education & Electronic Participation (SVEEP) plan, transport plan, communication network, strict implementation of Model Code of Conduct, election expenditure monitoring cell and security scenario were threadbare discussed.
“Expressing satisfaction over the preparedness and arrangements made for the elections, the Observer emphasized for facilitating the voters for better turnout during the elections,” the spokesman said.
The progress achieved in organizing voter awareness drive under SVEEP programme in Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency comprising of Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts was also reviewed besides functioning of media certification and monitoring committee (MCMC) set up by the District Election Officers.
Earlier, District Election Officer, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah, District Election Officer, Budgam, Khurshid Ahmad Shah and District Election Officer, Ganderbal, Sarmad Hafeez apprised the Observer about the preparedness and arrangements being put in place for smooth conduct of elections in their respective districts through PowerPoint presentations.
The District Election Officers briefed the Observer about monitoring of Model Code of Conduct and Monitoring of expenditures being incurred by the candidates of political parties, the spokesman said.
Among others, all the AROS, Nodal Officers and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
