ANANTNAG: District officer of Handicrafts Department Saturday organised a daylong orientation cum awareness camp at Kokernag here to aware the artisans and common people about different welfare schemes and programs, an official spokesperson said.
As the handicrafts sector is a backbone of the rural economy, a large number of participants attended the camp.
The authorities of the district addressed the audience on the subject of handicrafts, Shawl Bafi, Tela Darzi, Crewel, Chain Stitch and Embroidery trades of the Cooperative Societies. The authorities stressed to avoid middleman ship and to enable the artisans to sell their products on genuine rates.
During the camp, the participants were informed that the department has provided marketing facilities to the artisans at different tourist places across the State besides also conducted exhibitions outside the state.
