BARAMULLA: People from Gantamulla area of this north Kashmir district blocked the Srinagar-Muzfarabad road for several hours on Friday morning against failure of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) and Power Development Department (PDD) to provide them with electricity.
Residents of Gantamulla Bala, Gantamulla Payeen, Kitchama and several colonies assembled on the road and raised slogans against NHPC and PDD for not maintaining power supply to these areas.
The protests said that PDD was only collecting power tariff from the consumers without maintaining the power supply.
They said that the NHPC was also not fulfilling its promise of uninterrupted supply to the local population.
The protestors dispersed only after a team of officials from the district administration reached the spot and assured the locals to look into their demands.
