LS Polls: ‘Every honourable Kashmiri should stay away from elections’

SRINAGAR: Continuing with its poll boycott campaign, several leaders of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front( JKLF) Friday addressed public gatherings in various areas of south Kashmir villages and impressed upon people to stay away from the upcoming elections.
In a statement, a JKLF spokesman said that the leaders stressed that “participating in Indian elections was actually undermining the interests of our oppressed nation.”
“Every honorable Kashmiri should therefore refrain from these elections and voting,” they said.
According to the statement, speaking at Zalangam Kokernagh Islamabad, Barsoo Pulwama, Jamia Masjid Waltaingoo Kund Islamabad, Jamia Masjid Qouyel Pulwama, Y K Pora Qazigund, Nanel Bijbihara, Sutekpora Bijbihara, Aarigam Pulwama, Kellar Pulwama, Prechoo Pulwama, Mouchwara Shupian, Tengwani Shupian, Padgampora Awantipora, Chakoora Pulwama, Chewal Gam Kulgam and Srendoo Kulgam, the JKLF leaders “apprised people of the bad effects and consequences of participating in Indian elections.”
“They said that the main aim and objective of elections organized by India and held under Indian constitution is to prolong the slavery of Kashmiris; to legislate new tyrannical and oppressive laws against people of Jammu and Kashmir; and to subject Kashmiris to torture and repression,” the statement said.
“Therefore participation in these election on any name and pretext cannot be termed but as enmity with Kashmir and Kashmiris,” the leaders said.
While impressing people to “safeguard their national interests,” the speakers said that “Participating in these elections is actually undermining the interests of our oppressed nation and every honorable Kashmiri should therefore refrain from such practice.”
“Although these elections held under Indian constitution and under the auspicious of India, are contested on the slogans of prosperity, roads, water, electricity, and corruption-free governance and for addressing other day to day problems, but in reality they have always been used to malign, undermine and weaken the freedom struggle of Kashmiris,” the speakers said.
The statement said that the speakers appealed the people of Jammu and Kashmir “to show resilience and wisdom and not to get deceived by the hollow promises of electricity, water, employments, Tehsils and Nayabats.”
Besides addressing public gatherings, JKLF activists also distributed pamphlets on election boycott.
