DHAKA: India became the first team to make it to the semi-finals of ICC World T20 thanks to their crushing eight-wicket win against hosts Bangladesh in the Super10 game played at Chittagong. It was India’s third consecutive victory in the tourney that finds them booking a semis spot from the Group.
India followed the same pattern in this victory as followed in last two, restricting opposition batsmen under a par score thanks to the Amit Mishra and R Ashwin led bowling line-up before Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli involved themselves in a match winning chase, reaching the target in 18.3 overs.
Sharma made a 44-ball 56 including five fours and a six and was the second man out before adding 100 for the second wicket. Kohli showed his impressive form yet again hitting a solid unbeaten 57.
Earlier, all-rounder Mahmudullah finally came good for the hosts as he blasted unbeaten 33 off 23 balls with five fours and a six to give his team something to bowl at.
Opener Anamul Haque (44) played well at the top while skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (24) failed to convert the start that he got.
Anamul along with skipper Mushfiqur Rahim started a repair job. Rahim hit Jadeja for a couple of boundaries including a slog-swept boundary that brought the team’s 50 up in the ninth over.
Rahim (24) however played a loose shot and was caught by a diving Virat Kohli at mid-on position. Anamul-Rahim partnership yielded 46 runs for the fourth wicket.
But on 44, Amit Mishra bowled back-to-back googlies which he failed to read. The first one went for four byes but the second one was good enough to light on the LED stumps. He faced 43 balls with five fours and two sixes.
BRIEF SCORE: India 141/2 in 18.3 overs (Sharma 56, Kohli 57) beat Bangladesh 138/7 in 20 overs (Anamul Haq 44, Mahmadullah 33, Mishra 3/26, Ashwin 2/15) by eight wickets.
