Srinagar: Prominent socio-religious organisation Jamiat-e-AhlHadith (JeA) Thursday extended support to poll boycott call given by pro- freedom groups.
JeA chief Gulam Mohammad Bhat said that the calls issued by Kashmir’s pro-freedom leaders will be followed and his group has already made its position clear on Jammu and Kashmir being a “disputed territory”. “Elections cannot resolve the Kashmir issue; hence it is a futile exercise,” Bhat said.
“We will follow the call of resistance leaders vis-à-vis polls as they have asked people to stay away from polls,” he said.
When asked about plans about the door to door poll boycott campaign as was done by the group’s former chief Moulana Showkat Shah in 2008, Bhat stated that the issue is yet to be finalized and will be discussed at the Shoora meet expected to be held in near future. “If the Shoora decides that we must launch a massive poll boycott campaign, we will oblige the orders and it decides to stay away from the exercise, we will adhere to that decision.”
