Bandipora mutton production reaches 10.45 lakh kg in 2013-14

BANDIPORA: Mutton production in the district has reached to 10.45 lakh kilograms in the current financial year, official spokesperson said on Wednesday.
He also said the wool production has reached to 2.85 lakh kgs and the total sheep and goat population has increased to 2.45 lakh animals.
Sheep Husbandry Department organized an awareness camp under Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) at Town Hall Bandipora, in which a number of breeders and cattle sheep farmers took part.
In order to boost the sector, the breeders during the camp were made aware about the latest technology besides various profitable schemes and also the incentives available with the department.
The camp was chaired by Joint Director Extension Sheep Husbandry Department, Kashmir, Dr SK Matto whileas District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Bandipora, MA Dar, experts, officers and the sheep breeders were also present.
As many as 27 units were set up under various schemes against which a subsidy component of Rs. 3.60 lakh was provided to the breeders for establishment of 6 sheep farms in the district.
